Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument is 34 miles northeast of Amarillo off SR 136 on the south shore of Lake Meredith. The land at this 1,370-acre site is rich in flint, which occurs in a variety of colors and was used for toolmaking and barter by prehistoric cultures up to 12,000 years ago.
